As I am typing this, I am sitting on an eight-hour flight to Toronto, Canada only to later get on another four-hour flight to Denver. The early morning, airport stress and soon to be jetlag will all be worth it, because my experience in Barcelona was incredible.
When I heard about the opportunity to study abroad in Barcelona I immediately knew that that was the program I wanted to do. I had always wanted to go to Barcelona, five weeks was the perfect length away from home and both class credits worked towards my minor and my major. I am beyond happy that I did this program!
I really enjoyed all of the excursions and learning about the culture and history of each city. I think learning and understanding the history of cities gives a person a different perspective of the city in whole. It makes a person appreciate and understand the reasons why some buildings are colorful or why there a lion’s butt you kiss in hopes of coming back. Studying aboard is amazing and I think everybody should have to opportunity to do so.
I also really liked living with a host family. Although I was not very close to my host mom, I still appreciate all of the cooking and hospitality she provided me with. I think being able to live with a family changed my perspective of what it is really like living in a big city. I want to live in a big city after college and having to navigate my way around Barcelona really helped secure that decision.
But my most favorite thing about the program were the amazing friends I made! Yes, there were a few bumps on the road but overall we were a great group and had a lot fun together. Being able to travel though Spain and other parts of Europe and celebrating cultural festivities with the made me truly believe that I have made life long friends.
Thank you, Javier and Juan, for the amazing five weeks in Barcelona and for the fun classes and excursions!
