#1 - We have liftoff

This comes a little bit late, but I feel like it is still worth sharing. I have not left North America since I was 12, and so traveling now is more nerve-wracking than I originally anticipated. I checked the flight boards probably fifteen times to make sure I was at the right gate, something that usually I am very comfortable with. Perhaps my biggest fear though is that my host family and I will not get along. Will I be too quiet and reserved, something that has happened to me on previous trips, or will I be the loud obnoxious American? What if I eat too fast? If I use the tú form will they somehow be offended? After all I am living with them for the next five weeks and getting off to a bad start would be disastrous. Luckily, I am posting this late and have already found out that my family is awesome.
My expectations and goals for the trip are relatively simple. I want to learn more Spanish (particularly vocabulary), see and learn about the city of Barcelona, and finally eat as much of the food as I can. Other than that I am going with whatever the next few weeks throw at me. Maybe I'll even start doing my homework on time.
