  1. Hola todos.
I can't believe we only have 3 more days!
That came up quite quickly. It seems like I applied yesterday!
I've been traveling throughout Europe for the last month and have seen so many amazing things! I'm stoked to see what Spain has to offer and I'm pumped to get to know everyone.
I'm a little nervous about the pace of the course, but all the material seems interesting so I think we'll manage.
As for my goals, I really want to immerse myself in my host family's neighborhood; I want to be able to call it my own. I'm hoping to meet some genuine people that I will be able to visit when I return to Spain en el futuro!
Other than that, I want to learn about the history and culture and get all A's lol.
    See you all this weekend!

    Ciao, Eric

  2. I am currently in the middle of the packing process, and I can’t believe that I will be leaving for Barcelona tomorrow morning. I have been anticipating this trip for so long that it almost seems surreal. In my tenth grade Spanish class we had to plan a trip to a Spanish speaking country, and I chose to travel to Barcelona. I had no idea that the dream trip that I planned would one day become a reality. However, I do not want this experience to be like any other “trip” that I have taken. I hope to fully immerse myself in the culture of Barcelona, and want to live as someone from Barcelona would live. I do not want to seem like the typical tourist, merely visiting the most popular locations, and skimming over the surface of everything that this city has to offer. I hope to delve into the ocean that is Barcelona discovering the city’s unknown treasures of the deep.

Living in a foreign country will not be free of challenges if I plan to avoid acting like a tourist. Typically, I am not the best with directions when I am in the U.S., and my GPS has become my partner in crime to take me where I need to go. I am nervous about getting lost in Barcelona, and not being able to find my way back because I am directionally challenged. My goal is to try to speak Spanish as much as possible, and return to the U.S. with much more fluidity than I had before I left. However, I am nervous about not being able to communicate as efficiently as I would like, especially when I am interacting with my host family. Overall, I am unbelievably excited to embark on this new adventure, and begin writing the next chapter in the book that is my life.

  3. Hi everyone!
I am super excited and nervous to leave tomorrow morning! I am still trying to fit everything I need for 5 weeks into one suite case.. Anyways, I am nervous because I have only been out of the country with my family; this is the first time I travel without them and it's to another continent. But I am excited to learn about the culture and history of Spain. I am especially excited because this where my ancestors are from! My expectations and goals are to learn and do good in the classes but also to have a lot of fun! See you all soon!

  4. Hola amigos!

I am so excited to be in a new country for the first time ever! I have always wanted to study abroad and it feels like a dream come true to be here now! I have been here in Barcelona for a couple of days now but I have not had the ability to use my computer or internet access for this blog post, so I hope I am not too late on this post!

Anyway, I feel so lucky to be here and to have this opportunity. I know that I will grow so much from this experience and I look forward to being able to grow and develop my independence more as I learn to navigate around a new country for the first time by myself.

I am nervous to be in a situation that I do not know what to do. For example when I first arrived to Barcelona, my luggage was lost and the airline had trouble locating it and figuring out when it would be able to give it back to me. I was really upset because my whole environment was new and I felt like I had no idea what was going on, and I was also missing a lot of my belongings. It was pretty terrifying and I wasn’t sure what to do. I was able to speak with people at the airport and they helped me to file a claim for my luggage.

I know that this will be the experience of a lifetime and I want to gain so much from this trip! I hope to come back to the United States with the confidence to speak Spanish no matter the situation I am in. I really hope to be fluent in Spanish and I know that this is the perfect opportunity to be much closer to my goal. I also hope to become very familiar with the history and culture of Barcelona through the classroom lectures and outdoor excursions!

I do not have any expectations for this trip and I am truly just so excited for all of the wonderful memories yet to come! Here’s to all the new memories and friends I have yet to make!

    Hasta pronto, Lauren
